Romario seeks his 1000 goal
Since Pele scored his 1,000th goal in 1969 no one in the world manage to achieve this performance. Now Brazil is waiting the beginning of a new legend as Romario seeks his 1,000th.
Despite the fact that he has 41 years, Romario keeps playing and scoring for Vasco da Gama and is hoping that will score the 1000 th goal in the next matches. This is will be an incredible performance and will be very unlikely that will happen again. Brazil’s manager, Dunga , declared “I don’t think ever again a player will score 1,000 goals in football. It’s a true achievement.”
The funny thing is that most of the teams in Brazil championship consider a shame to receive this 1000th goal. Flamengo and Botafogo fans planned to invade the pitch and block the goal in the case of a penalty.
Known as O Baixinho (the little man) - Romario’s mastery inside the box peaked in 1994 when he helped Brazil win the World Cup and was named FIFA World Player of the Year.
Three years ago, when Pele suggested that Romario should retire the “little man” give an malicious response: “When Pele is quiet, he’s a poet, but he just talks shit.” More eloquently, he also responded by becoming the Brazilian league’s top scorer in 2005 - a remarkable achievement for a striker his age.
